Mt Baker
Summer at Mount Shuksan
If you want a summer vacation with a change of pace, try the Mt. Baker Wilderness. In nearby Bellingham, Washington, temperatures are in the 80's and 90's but at Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker, you would think it was still winter. It is fairly warm but the mountains are covered with snow and glaciers.

I took Mt. Baker Hwy. (SR 542) east of Bellingham. It is a beautiful drive to the Heather Meadows Visitor Center. At the end of July, the road was closed to Artist Point as it was still being cleared of snow. There are a number of hiking trails from the Visitor Center - one to a little lake nearby. People were also snowboarding on the packed snow.
