Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park

This is the Cliff Palace, the largest and most elaborate of the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park in southwest Colorado. The Anasazi or "Ancient Ones" inhabited this region from about 200 B.C. to 1300 A.D. There is evidence of over 4,000 sites at Mesa Verde. As one might imagine, the building style varied greatly over that time.

As well as having many amazing cliff dwellings, this is a beautiful area to visit. Mesa Verde is on a high plateau and the view on the drive up is worth the trip alone. As you wind up to the top of the plateau, you see the flatlands, mountains, and canyons of Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. It is breathtaking.
